    September’s Notebook

Recently I’ve started rewatching Fringe, the 2008-2013 X-files-like science fiction tv series about science terrorism, a war between alternate dimensions and strange Watcher-like beings called Observers. I bought this tie-in book, September’s Notebook, for £5 from ebay. I’ve got similar books like this called “vaults” which contain inserts and removable documents. This one pretends to be an in-universe object where one of the Observers has collected information about the characters and the cases they investigate.

  • Joe Golem Omnibus

    Joe Golem Omnibus

Joe Golem, Occult Detective is, I believe, the only Mignola Outerverse character I’ve just not ever read. This arrived unexpectedly today. I’d forgotten I’d ordered it ages ago.

  • Parker Girls #1

    Parker Girls #1

Luckily, Dave’s Comics had a copy of the first issue of Terry Moore’s new series, Parker Girls. My LCS couldn’t get a copy for me and – taking the opportunity of being in Brighton – I managed to pick it up. As usual, it’s a fantastic comic book. I always look forward to comics by Terry Moore.

  • The Amazing Spider-man Annual 1 (1964)

    The Amazing Spider-man Annual 1 (1964)

Not the real thing but a facsimile of the Steve Ditko-drawn (and probably plotted) annual from 1964. I believe it’s the first appearance of the villainous Sinister Six. I adore Ditko’s run on Spider-man and don’t think it’s ever been bettered. When I was a boy I had a British reprint of the early Ditko Spider-man and, like Jack Kirby’s Fantastic Four, influenced my taste in comics. I still love that first decade of Marvel comics.

    2000AD, Prog 2295

Final part of Abnett & Culbard’s Brink: Mercury Retrograde in this week’s 2000AD. Brink continues to be a fascinating comic and this book/series/season has approached the story from a very different (and thoroughly engaging) perspective. I’m in the process of re-reading the first four book atm.

  • Comics Creators on X-Men

    Comics Creators on X-Men

Picked this up from a secondhand bookshop in Rochester. I found it in the Literary Criticism section. As I’m in a bit of a personal X-Men revival, I couldn’t resist. It’s a series of interviews by Tom DeFalco with creators from Stan Lee to Grant Morrison. Some really interesting stuff. There seems to be companion books on Spider-man and the Fantastic Four that I’ll track down.

  • From Hell

    From Hell

Moore and Campbell’s extraordinary re-telling of the Jack the Ripper story (though it’s much more than that). I’ve read From Hell at least twice before but not for a very long time. I actually want a copy of the recent colourised version but picked up this instead (though only noticed that the back cover is starting to come away from the pages).

  • HoX / Pox

    HoX / Pox

2019’s big change to the X-Men universe. I’ve got the single issues somewhere and have kept up with what’s been happening since. My interest in the X-Men has been renewed by Kieron Gillen’s involvement. Getting this as a hardcover without paying a crazy price took a long time.

  • Providence #11

    Providence #11

Gradually finding the remaining single issues for Moore and Burrow’s Providence. I’m now only missing the regular cover for #9 I think this cover is of a Government Lethal Chamber.
