Appropriately, during \u201cVeganuary\u201d, ethical veganism has been recognised by British courts as a philosophical belief and is protected under law against discrimination. Hopefully, this ruling will help Jordi Casamitjana\u2019s unfair dismissal legal action. I\u2019m not sure what I think of the term ethical<\/em> vegan, though. As a vega<\/em>n without the need for a preceding adjective, I don\u2019t actually think of people who don\u2019t eat meat or dairy for dietry reasons as actually<\/em><\/span> being vegans. They\u2019re people who currently eat a plant-based diet for their own (cough… selfish<\/em>) reasons. Veganism is a compassionate belief that animals should not be exploited in any way by humans (the Vegan Society defines it: “Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.<\/em>“) So, I\u2019m not someone who uses the term dietry <\/em>vegan at all. But I guess the plant-based<\/em> dieters are helping us get more vegan food. When I popped into M&S in town they\u2019ve got a large end-of-aisle chiller full of interesting vegan foods. Shame they\u2019re no longer selling the vegan lasagne or their vegan ice-creams any more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I doubt the legal ruling will have any impact on the terrible “vegetarian” food that\u2019s served up on teacher training days. I\u2019ll still bring a packed lunch to work, thanks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finished watching Season 2 of Lost in Space<\/em> this afternoon (Jan’s been under the weather so we didn’t go to Brighton as expected). I’ve enjoyed it, despite the couple of middle episodes that didn’t seem to move the plot on that much. Some of the action sequences have been gripping. I’m still not that keen on the design of the robot and much prefer the one from the classic sixties series. I really do like junk SF far too much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
